Critics To Love Me In Kurbaan: Kareena Kapoor

Critics will love me in Kurbaan She has played a prostitute, a bubbly girl-next-door and the ultimate glamour queen in her almost decade-long career, but Kareena Kapoor says
“Kurbaan” has given her the opportunity to sink her teeth into one of the best roles in her career.

“I am so confident that in ‘Kurbaan’, audiences will take to my character in a big way,” said Kareena, who looks forward to playing a variety of roles across different genres of films.

“Especially after ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, they would see a different me in the film,” Kareena told IANS.

A Karan Johar production, “Kurbaan” is directed by first time director Rensil D’Silva and has terrorism as its background.

“The girl’s role is very strong in ‘Kurbaan’ and I have worked really hard on my performance. I’m expecting a lot from the film,” said the actress, who has won critical acclaim for her performance in “Dev” and “Omkara”.

Kareena is paired with boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in “Kurbaan”, which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Kirron Kher and Om Puri in principal roles.

The actress says she is once again expecting accolades from critics for her performance in the film.

“Well frankly, this is one film where I am expecting both box-office success and huge critical acclaim. The film is extremely well made and, to add to that, quite topical,” she said confidently.

With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Salim-Sulaiman, “Kurbaan” is aiming for a November release.

For Kareena, 2009 would be an eventful year as it would also see the release of Rajkumar Hirani’s “3 Idiots”, where she is paired opposite Aamir Khan, and debutant director Prem R. Soni’s “Main Aur Mrs. Khanna” with Salman Khan.

After being in the industry for close to a decade, doesn’t she aspire for more awards?

“See, ever since I began my career, I have always maintained that I want to be a star actress. I should give the kind of confidence to filmmakers that I can carry off any role confidently. Whether it is a Geet (’Jab We Met’) or a Dolly (’Omkara’), Simrita (’Kambakkht Ishq’) or the character I play in ‘Kurbaan’ – I am mixing it up all.

“For me, work is like a passion and when I do a film, I don’t really think of commercial gains or awards. What is most important for me is to be engaged in some quality stuff. I sign a film because I like to enact the character that I have been offered. If box office success and awards come then, well, it’s great,” she said.

Priyanka Chopra to the skies saying she is at her “career’s best right now”.

“I always knew Priyanka is a very good actress and after working on ‘Kaminey’ with her, I realised that she has given one of the most splendid performances of her career. I think Priyanka is at her career’s best right now,” Shahid told reporters here Sunday evening.

“Apart from that she is a team player and it’s so great she did this film despite knowing that the hero has a double role. She is a self-assured actor and very confident. She knows whatever she does she’ll give her best and she’ll be noticed and appreciated by the audience,” he added.

Reminiscing on his camaraderie with the beauty queen-turned-actress while filming the movie, he said: “It was amazing and I had a lot of fun working with her. We started our careers almost at the same time (2003).”

The 28-year-old actor was in the capital to be a part of BIG 92.7 FM’s ‘Dilli Ka Kaminaapan Quotient’ contest and promote his film “Kaminey” at the radio station. The contest was won by 15 listeners who had to prove that they are the biggest ‘kamina’ of the city.

Releasing Friday, “Kaminey” has been produced and distributed by UTV Motion Pictures and written-directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Writer-turned-director Amol Gupte makes his onscreen debut in the film.

Shahid is on a chain of promotion visits and has been noticed marketing the movie alone, without the leading lady.

He explained: “Me and Priyanka are doing a lot of promotions together and also individually. We are together promoting (the film) and we recently did a press conference in Bangalore.”

“Kaminey” has had its share of controversies too considering a reported on-off relationship between Shahid and Priyanka.

Shahid kept mum on this but insisted that such rumours added to “pressure” in a celebrity’s life and career.

“People say that any kind of promotion is good promotion but I don’t personally subscribe to that… The rumours add pressure. It’s difficult all the time dealing with all the speculations about your personal life but I guess as an actor it becomes a part of your job… its an occupational hazard. But it’s not a great feeling… you have to learn to deal with it,” he said.

Aerosmith star Joe Perry heartbroken at prospect of axing current tour

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said that he is heartbroken at the idea of not completing their current tour.

The gig ended after the lead vocalist Steven Tyler got injured, when he fell from the stage during a show in South Dakota.

“We still don””t know if we””re going to keep the tour up or what. It”’’s breaking my heart,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

Tyler broke his shoulder and suffered minor head and neck injuries after he toppled mistiming a dance step.

He is presently being treated at the local Rapid City Regional Hospital.

The band has already postponed the scheduled concert in Winnipeg, Canada to allow him to heal.

However, they have 18 dates scheduled on their summer tour, with their final performance due to take place in Detroit, Michigan on 16 September.

The group has been drawn back due to similar problems earlier as well.

Tyler opted to cancel many shows after he suffered a leg injury, while bandmate Brad Whitford had to skip touring duties after undergoing surgery for a burst blood vessel.

Also, their planned tour in 2008 and dates earlier this year were postponed to allow Perry to recover from a knee surgery.

Michael Jackson2 The promoters of late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s doomed comeback concerts may not be able to collect 17.5 million dollars covered by an accident insurance policy, with a report suggesting that it could be void if “illicit” drugs were involved in the singer’s death.

As per the policy AEG Live bought from Lloyd’’s of London, the promotion company could recover any loses it sustained due to any mishaps leading to cancellations of his 50-concert run, which was supposed to kick off on July 13 in London.

“This insurance does not cover any loss directly or indirectly arising out of, contributed to, by or resulting from . . . the illegal possession or illicit taking of drugs and their effects,” the New York Post quoted the policy as stating.

Jackson, 50, died June 25 at his rented home in Los Angeles.

Even though the LA County Coroner hasn”t formally ruled on Jackson’’s cause of death, several reports have suggested that the singer probably died from a massive drug overdose.

AEG officials say that they are waiting for the coroner’’s findings before seeking to collect on their policy.

“The policy document is confidential and the details of it have not been made public by Lloyd’’s,” said Louise Shield, a representative for the insurance company.

“I am afraid we can”t offer any comment,” she said.

According to preliminary findings, Jackson had traces of several drugs in his system when he died, including the anaesthesia and sedatives.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler has dashed his image as Hollywood’s lothario to pieces, after he insisted that his love life is “pretty miserable”.

Butler, 39, had gained a tabloid reputation for being a ladies’ man after he was linked to a string of beautiful women, including actresses Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz.

“Love is something that I’ve definitely felt a couple of times. It never worked out, it made me nuts, but I absolutely want to experience it again. And it’s about f**king time!” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“I’ve definitely had lots of fun. Now I’m more serious about things – I don’t mess around anywhere near like I used to. It was a lot more fun when I was under the radar.

“Now going on a date is going to be well publicised. I would be lying if I said my love life is amazing at the moment. It’s actually pretty miserable,” he added.

Pop singer Paula Abdul, who has just stepped down from her role as an ‘American Idol’ co-judge, has revealed that she has been receiving “many wonderful” job offers.

Abdul, 47, who announced on August 4 that she was leaving the show after eight seasons, is not worried about the fact that she is currently out of a job.

“At this point, there are so many wonderful things that are being offered to me,” Us magazine quoted her as saying on August 6 while taping a cameo on Lifetime’s ‘Drop Dead Diva’.

“And I got to take a deep breath, sleep a little … and go through everything,” she stated.

She also revealed that she was considering joining ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.

Tv American Idol PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — ABC is joining the chorus of those seeking to hire Paula Abdul, who said she’s quitting “American Idol.”

ABC programming chief Stephen McPherson told the Television Critics Association on Saturday that he was “stunned” to hear she’d decided to leave the top-rated Fox series and that he’s contacted Abdul, whom he called an old friend.

McPherson told Abdul he’d love to see her at ABC, home of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Abdul announced last Tuesday she was leaving as an “Idol” judge following stalemated contract talks with Fox and the show’s producers. She said she quickly started receiving “wonderful” offers.

Batman Beyond Return of the joker, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (also known as Batman of the Future: Return of the Joker in Europe and Australia) is a direct-to-video animated film featuring the comic book superhero Batman and his archenemy, the Joker. It is set in the continuity of the animated series Batman Beyond, in which Bruce Wayne has retired from crimefighting and given the mantle of Batman to high school student Terry McGinnis. As in the TV series, Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy star as Terry McGinnis and Bruce Wayne, respectively. Mark Hamill, who played the Joker opposite Conroy in Batman: The Animated Series, returns in the title role.

Before its release, the movie was heavily edited to remove scenes of violence, and some dialogue was altered, thus creating the “Not-Rated” version of the movie. The original version was subsequently released on DVD following an online petition to have the original version released. It received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA for violence.

Mephisto Odyssey and Static-X contributed the song “Crash (The Humble Brothers Remix)” on the film’s soundtrack, along with a music video featured on the DVD.

Adventures in Babysitting, Adventures in Babysitting is a 1987 comedy film written by David Simkins, directed by Chris Columbus, and starring Elisabeth Shue, Bradley Whitford, Maia Brewton, Anthony Rapp, Penelope Ann Miller, Keith Coogan, and a brief cameo by blues singer/guitarist Albert Collins. Although it is set in Oak Park, and Chicago, Illinois, with much of the action taking place in the city itself, the movie was filmed primarily in Toronto.

* Elisabeth Shue as Chris Parker, a high school senior whose boyfriend cancels their date, so she goes to babysit the Andersons. She has an upbeat though very mature personality, taking the responsibility thrust upon her being trapped in Chicago with her charges very seriously. She is compassionate and friendly, though naive when it comes to meeting the “right guy.”

* Penelope Ann Miller as Brenda, Chris’ best friend, terrified while in the bus station. A little neurotic, Brenda runs away from home due to unspecified stress and becomes trapped in the bus station downtown, prompting Chris to come pick her up. She is persistent, edgy and positively, blind without her glasses, which are stolen early on.

* Bradley Whitford as Mike Todwell, Chris’ boyfriend who canceled their anniversary date for another girl. He is obnoxious, chauvinistic, and only after a girl who puts out easily. He is regarded as a jerk and once beat Daryl up under suspicion that he touched his Camaro. His license plate is well-known as reading “SO COOL.”

* Maia Brewton as Sara Anderson, an 8-year-old girl who idolizes Thor. She is the youngest and most impressionable, Brad going to lengths to keep her from being exposed to Daryl’s overtly sexual personality. Sara is best known for wearing her Thor helmet and carrying around a plastic hammer. She is fun-loving and caring and attempts to offer her helmet for payment of a car tire when the mechanic has an uncanny likeness to the famed god Thor.

* Keith Coogan as Brad Anderson, a 15-year-old boy who has a crush on Chris. He is obsessed with becoming popular and more worthy in Chris’ eyes. He’s not afraid to speak his mind and often tries to be more mature than Daryl, but in his attempts to act cool he can tend to make some pretty big mistakes. His foot-in-mouth syndrome is solved at one point by having a knife thrown into his toe when trying to intervene in a gang fight.

* Anthony Rapp as Daryl Coopersmith, Brad’s sex-obsessed best friend. Daryl is a sex-crazed, ambitious, and fun-loving party animal, though he has never been to a party nor had sex. He thanks Chris for the best night of his life “so far” and is responsible for stealing a Playboy full of stolen car orders, sending a gang after them all to try and replace the one he stole from his dad to show Brad.

* Calvin Levels as Joe Gipp, a compassionate, streetwise criminal who helps Chris and the others on several occasions. He knocks out his boss as a sign of resignation and is known for telling Chris when seeing a Playboy centerfold who looks like her, “She don’t even compare to you.”

* Vincent D’Onofrio as Dawson/Thor, introduced as a hard-bargaining curmudgeon who is nobody’s friend. After having been given a gift from Sara, who claims him to be her hero, Dawson gives the repaired car back to the group after initially refusing, as Chris was $5 short.

* George Newbern as Dan Lynch, a college student who falls in love with Chris and refuses to believe she is merely a high school student. He finds Sara’s skates in the back of his Jeep after dropping the kids off at Dawson’s garage and returns them, revealing he actually wanted to see Chris again. He becomes her new boyfriend in the end.

* John Ford Noonan as John Pruitt or “Handsome” John Pruitt, a tow truck operator who picks Chris and her friends off the side of the highway and offers to pay for the tire. He is short-tempered, however, and immediately veers to his house to take care of the man with whom his wife is having an affair. He goes on the lamb after the assault charges catch up with him, but he gives them the directions to Dawson’s garage.

* John Davis Chandler as Bleak, the ringleader of a gang of car thieves that Chris and the others encounter. He is smarter, and more suave than Graydon, his counterpart but his ambition to meet his goals often leaves him blind sided.

* Ron Canada as Graydon, Bleak’s second in command. He has a short temper and is nervous when met with confrontation with his boss. He tends to leap before he looks and gets himself into some vary precarious positions.

* Albert Collins as Himself portrayed as a player in a Chicago Blues club, he insists on anyone who comes on his stage to “(not leave) this place without singin’ the Blues”

* Lolita Davidovich as Sue Ann, a lonely girl at a frat party whose dumb jock boyfriend attacks Darryl when she attempts to have sex with him for being compassionate to her needs.Adventures in Babysitting
