New Delhi: BJP Leaders Watch SRK My Name Is Khan, While the Shiv Sena and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) threaten to disrupt the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s film My Name Is Khan, some BJP members watched it at a special screening in New Delhi on Friday evening.

Shah Rukh Khan has been the Shiv Sena’s latest target with Sainiks tearing down posters of his latest film My Name Is Khan and asking Mumbaikars to boycott the film because the actor spoke out for inclusion of Pakistani cricket players in the IPL.

But members of its principal ally, the BJP, and other political parties enjoyed Khan’s latest offering at a special screening organised in the Capital.

“Politics and films should be kept separate. It’s an unnecessary controversy. There is no need for all this,” said former cricketer and BJP leader Chetan Chauhan.

With the RSS also speaking out against the Shiv Sena’s Marathi manoos policy, the BJP has towed the line and is now keen to project a more secular image.

In an interview to Karan Thapar on Devil’s Advocate two weeks back BJP President Nitin Gadkari had said that development and religion was his party’s appeal.

Entertainers can be politicians and Bollywood too has its set of politics.

But cinema is supposed to be about fun that everyone can enjoy.

Perhaps it is high time politicians stop and let the aam aadmi decide whether a movie is worth watching or not.

Jessica Alba was left embarrassed while filming a kiss scene with Ashton Kutcher for upcoming movie ‘Valentine’’s Day’ – because her chewing gum almost fell out of her mouth during the act.

The actress has admitted that locking lips with her Hollywood pal was ‘awkward’ to shoot – but shooting the scene got even more uncomfortable when a glob of her gum got stuck on her lip as Kutcher leaned in for a smooch.

“Whenever I”m nervous I have gum on the roof of my mouth – so I had it (during the scene) and my mouth got dry because I was nervous because I knew I was going to kiss Ashton. It got powdery and it got on my lip during my close-up,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

Alba said that her co-star Kutcher spotted the sticky situation and refused to let her blooper go unnoticed.

“He (Kutcher) called me out in front of the whole crew. It was really embarrassing,” he said.

Dear John Movie Reviews

Dear John Movie Reviews

Posted on 05 Feb 2010 at 12:00pm

Dear John Movie Reviews, This week’s literary movie is “Dear John,” a tear-jerker adapted from the book of the same name by the King of Tear-Jerkers, Nicholas Sparks (who’s a high school track coach in his spare time). It’s a love story interrupted by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Practical Army guy (played by Channing Tatum)meets idealistic girl (Amanda Seyfried), he abandons her to fight Osama, and a “Dear John” letter follows. (Here’s the trailer and official site.) Sparks’ novels have sparked other romantic movies, including “The Notebook,” “Night in Rodanthe” and “A Walk to Remember” — “Dear John” appears to be another weeper. Here are excerpts from reviews for the new movie:

San Fracisco Chronicle — Sure, it sounds corny. But director Lasse Hallstrom (“Chocolat”) and screenwriter Jamie Linden give the whirlwind romance an appealing, straightforward decency, and Tatum and Seyfried click rather effortlessly. They’re not Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams from “The Notebook,” but they’ll do.

New York Times — he latest attempt to bring his warm, earnest, therapeutic sensibility to the screen, falls in the upper middle range of Sparks film adaptations. the latest attempt to bring his warm, earnest, therapeutic sensibility to the screen, falls in the upper middle range of Sparks film adaptations.

Miami Herald — “Dear John” is at its date-movie best in the first half; it’s the sort of pretty weeper that will draw young women in droves. Later on the film gets a bit bogged down in its noble ambitions.

Los Angeles Times — What we don’t really have is an actual film but a very long music video with lots of montages of John and Savannah “moments” as they read their letters in absentia, which means neither the fans nor the foes of “The Notebook” are likely to be satisfied.

Variety — Ultimately, the story feels as if it’s killing time before throwing the next hurdle at the couple, seizing on a favorite Sparks theme that in matters of love, life isn’t fair.

Reuters — The mad passion at the center of the movie raises the temperature not one degree, and all the sentimentality that surrounds the movie — an autistic child, a shy, emotionally stunted father, a wounded vet and later a character with a stroke and another with cancer — feels like so many tugs on the heartstrings.

Brittany Murphy Died from Pneumonia, Drugs

Brittany Murphy Died from Pneumonia, Drugs

Posted on 05 Feb 2010 at 11:07am

LOS ANGELES: Actress Brittany Murphy’s death in December was accidental and the result of pneumonia, anemia and “multiple drug intoxication,” the Los Angeles Coroner’s office said on Thursday.

Murphy, 32, the co-star of movies “Clueless” and “8 Mile” suffered a cardiac arrest on Dec. 20 in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home.

The coroner’s office said the drugs found in Murphy’s body were a mixture of prescription and over-the-counter medications. No illegal drugs were found.

The preliminary report ruled her death an accident, caused by drug intake. It said she had pneumonia and suffered from anemia caused by an iron deficiency. The full autopsy report will be issued in about two weeks time.

Murphy’s husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, said at the time that the actress had been suffering from laryngitis. Initial media speculation had focused on a possible eating disorder and rumors of cocaine use — both of which she had denied several years ago.

Photographs of Murphy’s last red carpet appearance in early December showed the actress in a sleeveless dress with rail-thin arms and legs.

In her career, Murphy starred in films like “Girl Interrupted” and “8 Mile” and worked with actors such as Michael Douglas, Ashton Kutcher, Eminem and Angelina Jolie.

But in more recent years, she worked mostly in low-budget movies.
