Simon Cowell’’s ”new girlfriend”

Post image for Simon Cowell’’s ”new girlfriend”

A normally private person, music mogul Simon Cowell is said to have surprised onlookers when he kissed his new girlfriend at the ”Britain’’s Got Talent” auditions.

Cowell, 50, was seen hugging make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy, 36, and kissing her on the lips on February 11, as she sat next to him at the audition at Hammersmith Apollo in West London.

“This is serious. He is head over heels in love. The fact he’’s happy to show his affection in the most public manner says it all,” the Mirror quoted a pal as saying.

“She is everything Simon wants in a woman. They are blissfully happy,” the pal said.

The pair kissed during a break in rehearsals before Hussainy straightened his tie and patted his back.

“Simon doesn”t normally show off his girlfriends in public – quite the opposite. He squirrels them away and keeps them out of the limelight,” an ITV show source said.

“It was a shock to see him kiss her in front of everyone. He certainly wasn”t shy in letting people know what he thought,” the source added.

Brigitte Bardot calls Sarkozy’’s oldest friend “big, fat wide-boy liar”

Post image for Brigitte Bardot calls Sarkozy’’s oldest friend “big, fat wide-boy liar”

French model/singer Brigitte Bardot has called one of President Nicolas Sarkozy’’s oldest friends a “big, fat wide-boy liar” after he claimed to have slept with her at the height of her fame.

Bardot, 75, was infuriated by Patrick Balkany’’s claim in his autobiography released last month, and his repeating it on radio and television.

The 61-year-old controversial and flamboyant mayor-MP of a Paris suburb, portrays himself as a Don Juan who wooed a host of beauties, in his book, ”Une Autre Verite, La Mienne” (Another Truth, Mine).

Among his conquests he cites Shirley MacLaine, the film star, and Bardot, who fell for his charms at the zenith of her seductive powers.

“I must have been 18. She was a star hounded by the paparazzi. We had gone together to a soiree in Deauville [a chic Normandy seaside town]. I was proud to have her on my arm,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted him as writing.

“”Listen,” she whispered in her inimitable voice, ”I can”t sleep with someone if I”m not in love”. Oh well, I thought. Ten minutes later, she added, in a breath: ”But you know, I can fall in love three times a day”,” he wrote.

He claims the star of ”And God Created Woman”, who is now a prominent animal rights campaigner, mentioned the one-night stand in 2004 when she used his town hall for her Brigitte Bardot Foundation’’s Christmas function.

But Bardot categorically denied the liaison in a statement to the press.

“I know with whom I have slept and it certainly was not with this fat wide-boy liar, an unusually inelegant cad,” she wrote.

“For a politician who claims to be credible, respected and dignified, this lowliness shows his true personality,” she added.

Balkany recently recounted the incident on a television programme called ”We Haven”t Gone To Bed”, and Bardot said it should have been renamed ”We Haven”t Gone To Bed Together” for the occasion.

If he restated his claim once more, she promised to sue him for slander. Her lawyer said she was considering filing for a court injunction to force the book’’s publisher to insert a denial from Bardot in the book.

“All her life, people have told rubbish about her,” Christophe Marie, head of animal protection at her foundation, said.

“She feels wounded and soiled and doesn”t understand the Levallois mayor’’s actions unless it’’s a desire to get people talking about him to sell his books,” Marie stated.

But Balkany has stuck to his story, reportedly saying: “Nothing surprises me any more. I just find all this very sad for her.”

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief Movie

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief Movie, Based on Rick Riordan’s 2005 best-selling children’s novel, Chris Columbus’s ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’ follows the daily struggles of Percy Jackson, a dyslexic teenage boy who loves holding his breath under water for long periods of time.

Percy soon discovers, though, that his world may not be what it seemed; he might actually be the son of Poseidon, the mythic Greek god of the seas. When he is accused of stealing Zeus’s iconic lightning bolt, Percy sets out on an ‘Odyssey’-like adventure to expose the real thief and retrieve his emotionally wrecked mother (who suspiciously vanished) from Hades.

Playing Percy is Logan Lerman, who you might recognize from the acclaimed, short-lived TV series ‘Jack & Bobby’; the always reliable, Oscar-nominated actress Catherine Keener stars as his mother. Uma Thurman also pops up as a playfully wicked Medusa, while Pierce Brosnan has a noteworthy role as the paraplegic Mr. Brunner, Percy’s teacher who is really half-man, half-horse.

Clearly marketed to the ‘Harry Potter’ crowd, ‘The Lightning Thief’ hopes to make bank this weekend sandwiched between more adult-fare like ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘The Wolfman.’ Surprisingly, the critics have mostly been kind to this adventure-fantasy film, with mixed-to-positive reviews; but all agree that Percy Jackson is no Potter. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune even points out that director Columbus might be off his game since his ‘Potter’ days: “Columbus’ casting instincts have let him down here a bit (he certainly got that right with the ‘Harry Potter’ films).”

Take a look at what the rest of the critics have to say:

Roger Ebert: “Director Chris Columbus has fun with this goofy premise, but as always I am distracted by the practical aspects of the story. Does it bother the Greek gods that no one any longer knows or cares that they rule the world? What are the genetic implications of human/god interbreeding? And, forgive me, I’ll have to double back to Sally Jackson, Percy’s mother. How did she meet Poseidon? At the beach, I suppose. Did he reveal his true identity? If a guy picks you up at the beach and says he’s Poseidon, do you say, fine, let’s not date, let’s just mate? Then when the bastard dumps you and disappears, leaving you pregnant, what way is that for a god to behave?”

Chicago Tribune: “Now Columbus has taken on ‘The Lightning Thief,’ a fantasy construct in which Greek gods threaten war in modern-day America over Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. The books are very big in our house right now: My son (who enjoyed the film more than I did) just started No. 3. I can see why Riordan’s series has so many fans. The first book is pace-y as all get-out, chockablock with exotic dangers — if it’s not Medusa, it’s the Lord of the Underworld or the Furies — and in ‘The Lightning Thief,’ the young hero, Percy, played in the film by Logan Lerman, must confront his true nature as a half-blood son of the sea god Poseidon.”

The Hollywood Reporter: “So has ‘Percy Jackson’ successfully cracked the ‘Potter’ code? In terms of overall quality, not even close. Still, the film’s carefully calibrated mixture of CGI-enhanced spectacle, diverting (and blood-free) action sequences and adolescent angst could make it a modest hit with the 8-12-year-old set. Where Harry’s exploits attract audiences of all ages, though, Percy’s appeal seems strictly limited to the family moviegoing crowd; anyone outside of that demo is better off waiting for part one of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,’ due in theaters in November.”

Russell Brand’’s Amy Winehouse’’s liver joke named greatest on-stage quip

Post image for Russell Brand’’s Amy Winehouse’’s liver joke named greatest on-stage quip

Comedian Russell Brand’’s joke about the state of Amy Winehouse’’s liver has topped a list of the greatest on-stage quips at the Brit Awards.

MySpace users were asked to choose from a shortlist of the most amusing and cringeworthy comments since the event began in 1977.

Brand, who hosted the show in 2007, landed the spot after he famously joked about the ‘Rehab’ singer: “Amy Winehouse – her surname’’s beginning to sound like a description of her liver.”

Brand’s gag came ahead of Robbie Williams challenging Liam Gallagher to a punch-up as he stepped on stage to collect an award in 2000.

Liam stood third for his 1996 remark at host Chris Evans: “It will take more than Ginger Bollocks to throw us off.”

“The Brits are a national institution and millions of us tune in every year, not just to see who wins and who loses but to see who trips up on stage and who gives the wittiest speeches – the best of which linger in the memory long after the ceremony is over,” the Mirror quoted Will Francis, editor of MySpace UK, as saying.

Justin Timberlake came fourth in the list with his 2004 quip: “This is only my first record so you guys stick with me, we”ve got depression and drug addiction to go through.”

Bjork’’s bizarre 1998 comment ‘I am a grateful grapefruit’ rounded off the top five.

She says, “It was fun, but you have to twist your back all around. My dad and Anoushka both have twisted backs from playing so much.

“And you have to sit cross-legged. See, that ain”t cool! I can”t imagine doing a world tour cross-legged.”
