James Cameron to write ””Avatar”” prequel novel

After mesmerizing audiences with Avatar, James Cameron is set to wow fans as he puts pen to paper for an ””Avatar”” prequel novel, producer Jon Landau has revealed.

Jon Landau told MTV News that the novel would be a prequel.

“Not a novelization – and there is a distinction. A novelization basically retells the story of the movie. Jim wants to write a novel that is a big epic that fills in a lot of things,” the New York Daily News quoted him, as saying.

He added: “It would be something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but it would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn””t have time to deal with – like the schoolhouse and Sigourney [Weaver''''s character] teaching at the schoolhouse; Jake on earth and his backstory and how he came here; [the death of] Tommy, Jake”’’s brother; and Colonel Quaritch, how he ended up there and all that.”

The book would be the Oscar-winning director”’’s debut on the printed page.

And according to Landau the novel will be out soon.

He said: “I””m hoping by the end of this year.”

Mindi Abair (born May 23, 1969) is an American contemporary jazz saxophonist with a strong Top-40 pop music background. Mindi has toured and/or recorded with the Backstreet Boys, Duran Duran, Mandy Moore, Josh Groban, Adam Sandler, Keb’ Mo’, Lalah Hathaway, Lee Ritenour, Teena Marie, John Tesh, Bobby Lyle, Jonathan Butler, Peter White and Rick Braun.

In 1999 she independently released a pop album, Always and Never the Same.

In 2003, Abair moved from pop to jazz. She signed to Verve Records and released the album It Just Happens That Way, which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and remained in the Top 10 for 19 consecutive weeks.[citation needed] Billboard magazine named It Just Happens That Way one of the top 10 Contemporary Jazz CDs of the year.[citation needed] Her hit single “Lucy’s,” was #1 on R&R[clarification needed] for a record-breaking eight weeks. Her 2004 release Come As You Are peaked at #9 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts. Her 2006 release Life Less Ordinary peaked at #2 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart[4] and remained in the top 20 for 45 weeks.[citation needed] Her songs “True Blue” and “Bloom” hit #1 on R&R. She signed to Concord Records in 2007, and her latest 2008 release Stars broke the usual genre barriers, with her single “Stars” (written and produced by Matthew Hager) charting #29 Adult Contemporary R&R simultaneously with her single “Smile” hitting top ten on the R&R jazz airplay charts.[citation needed]

Abair also plays the flute and keyboard and sings, and she has hosted the nationally syndicated radio program Chill with Mindi Abair since 2007, which focuses on chill out music.

”Toh Baat Pakki” stars attend premiere in New Delhi

Bollywood’’s latest Hindi movie ”Toh Baat Pakki” (So It’’s Settled) was premiered in New Delhi on Thursday (February 18).

Bollywood actors Tabu, Sharman Joshi, Director Kedar Shinde and other crewmembers were presented during the premiere that took place at a plush Cineplex.

Directed by Marathi filmmaker Kedar Shinde, the film is a homely family drama that depicts typical culture and values of Indian middle-class families.

The film is about a middle-class woman, who is obsessed with getting her younger sister Nisha married to a well-settled boy within their clan.

The film features Bollywood actors Tabu and Sarman Joshi in the lead role.

Bollywood actress Tabu, the lead star of the film, is making her comeback in Hindi films after three-years. The National Award-winning actress was last seen in 2007.

Tabu termed the film as light-hearted family drama.

“This film is an entertaining, light-heated and fun-filled film about a marriage, about middle class values, about sisters, families and about romance and all of that,” she said.

The film also features Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi in the lead male role.

Joshi, whose last film 3-Idiots was a blockbuster of the year 2009, looked confident of the success of the film.

“The story is very enduring and exciting. As far as my character is concerned I am playing the role of Rahul Saxena, a final year engineering student who is simple and shy guy, who doesn”t stand for his rights and if he stretched beyond limits he will stand for his rights,” said Sharman Joshi.

Kedar Shinde, for whom this is debut directorial effort, said that bollywood directors Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee inspired him.

“I am very fond of films by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee and films by Rajshri Productions that depicts our culture and values…I always want to produce a light-hearted comedy and it is a light-hearted comedy,” said Kedar Shinde.

The film also features actors Yuvika Chaudary, Vatsal Seth and Ayub Khan.

Brittany Murphy’s father ‘not allowed’ to visit her grave

Brittany Murphy’s father Angelo Bertolotti has been denied access to her daughter’s grave, it has emerged.

Bertolotti reportedly entered Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, and requested staff to direct him to his daughter’’s place of burial.

However, he was apparently led to the main office and then refused access to the site.

Bertolotti even offered to provide documentary proof he is Murphy’’s dad, reports TMZ.com.

He later said he was “raging” after staff turned him away, reports the Daily Star.

A spokesman for the cemetery said an investigation has been launched into the matter.

Murphy passed away earlier this year.

Aishwarya Pregnant Pause!

MUMBAI India: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been wishing to become a mother for some time now. The fact that she has so far not gotten pregnant is actually a cause for concern for the entire Bachchan parivar.

According to a close family friend, though outwardly the family may have taken the when-it-happens-it-will-happen stand, but within, there’s a very ardent desire to have an heir for the family as soon as possible.

Mr Bachchan is especially sold on a grandson, but when asked about it he says, as usual, “When it happens, it will happen.”

But the question that is really bothers the family and their close friends is – when? After all, it’s no secret that Aishwarya is 37, and she isn’t getting any younger.

But it now comes to light that the reason for her inability to bear a child at the moment is because she has been suffering from stomach tuberculosis for a while. Says a source, “The medication Aishwarya is taking for her stomach ailment is hampering her from getting pregnant. Until the tuberculosis is fully cured, she is unlikely to risk a pregnancy.”

On his blog, an anguished Amitabh Bachchan has written about ‘the rich man’s TB’, dispelling the myth that the disease only afflicts the less privileged. Now that the supposed reason for the delay in her pregnancy is clearer, we can only hope and pray that the Bachchan bahu speedily recovers from the ailment and fulfills her ardent desire to become a mother.

Salman and Katrina deserve special awards

MUMBAI India: The 55th Idea Filmfare Awards 2009 is all set to happen at Yash Raj studios in Mumbai on 27th Feb 2010 and who better than the gorgeous Katrina Kaif to announce the grant event!

Looking supremely sexy in a body hugging knee length purple dress, Katrina Kaif proved to be rather witty in her replies to the press.

Unlike other Bollywood actresses who choose to be diplomatic, Katrina even openly confessed how Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan deserve the Filmfare Best Actress award for Kaminey and Pa respectively, inspite of them being Kats competitors in the same category. Katrina has won a Best Actress nomination for her performance in New York.

Katrina even light-heartedly apologized to a member of the press for not able to speak in fluent Hindi said, “Mujhe Maaf Kijiye, main koshish kar rahi hoon”. Speaking on awards, Katrina said, “I always get nominated but never win! Its great that the audience likes my work and that is my reward but I’d also like to win awards. They make you feel proud of your work, your film.”

In spite of being in the Hindi film industry for over 20 years, Salman too hasn’t won a Filmfare award. “Filmfare should start a special category for people who have not won a Filmfare like Salman and me” laughed Katrina.

The actress will also be performing at the 55th Idea Filmfare awards 2009, an act which will be choreographed by Ganesh Hegde.

The hosts of the show have been kept under wraps.

Speaking on the occasion, Tarun Rai, CEO, Worldwide Media Private Limited, said, “I am really amazed that we have been doing this for 55 long years. Earlier, we had three categories and handful of films. Today, we have 111 films vying for 37 categories.”

Kathryn Grayson, Star of Classic Musicals, Is Dead

Kathryn Grayson, Star of Classic Musicals, Is Dead: Seems hard to believe now, but there was a time when they made movie musicals all the time, and even featured singers with true operatic voices. One of the finest, Kathryn Grayson, died Wednesday at 88, “of natural causes at her Los Angeles home,” according to her “longtime companion and secretary, Sally Sherman.

Miss Grayson had a good deal of what they used to call star quality, along with a pretty, flexible, well-focused soprano and abundant taste. Some of her film appearances in the 1940s and ’50s include “Show Boat,” “Kiss Me Kate,” and “Anchors Aweigh,” along with some movies with co-star Mario Lanza.

Director Sekhar Kammula is coming with his new release “Leader”. It is going to release on 19 Feb, 2010. Daggubati Rana, Richa Gangopadhyay, Priya Anand & Suman are in the lead roles.

Director said that the movie is based on the idea that if you want success in life then you must have a good leader to guide you. This movie tells the difference between a politician & a leader. It’s not an action movie, & neither has it showed fights between the parties, rather it’s an emotional flick which sends its message beautifully.

The music of the film is composed by Mickey J Meher.

Actor Rana explained that this is the best movie which he got for his debut venture. He further added that he is playing the role of, Arjun Prasad & he has put his best effort to play it.

Other persons in the cast are Ahuti Prasad, Harshavardhan, Subba Raju, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Suhasini, Tanikella Bharani, Udayabhanu, Rao Ramesh & Suman.

Veturi has written the lyrics of the songs & Vijay C Kumar done its cinematography. Dialogues, screenplay, & story is written by Aravind Joshua.

Actor Nirmal Pandey Passes Away

MUMBAI: Actor Nirmal Pandey, best remembered for his work in films like Bandit Queen and God Mother died here on Thursday following a cardiac arrest.

He was 46 and is survived by his wife and two children.

Family sources said the actor was not keeping well for sometime and the end came at a private hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The actor established a niche playing negative characters on the big screen as well as on television, and his last project was the Telugu film Kedi, where he again played a villain.

A graduate from the National School of Drama, the actor is best known for films like, Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, One 2 ka 4 and Shikari.

Pandey also held the rare distinction of winning an award in the ‘Best Actress’ category when he received the Valenti award in France in 1996 for his turn as a transvestite in Amol Palekar’s Daayraa.

Actor Irrfan Khan who was a senior of Pandey’s at NSD said that he was “deeply saddened” by the sudden death.

“I remember him as a handsome guy. He was not just a good actor but also an excellent singer. I had not been in touch with him for some time, but the news is saddening,” Irrfan who was shooting for a commercial when he received the news said.

Pandey had released an album called Jazba in 2002 and directed, Andhayug, a Hindi play, written by noted playwright Dharamveer Bharati.

Katy Perry dismisses shoe line reports

Katy Perry has dismissed reports that she is coming up with her own shoe line.

The New York Post had reported that the singer had landed a 625,000-pound deal to collaborate with designer Steve Madden.

However, the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ hitmaker’s representative has cleared the air.

“Katy is working on her next album, not a shoe line,” the Daily Star quoted the spokesperson as saying.
