Carly Simon has finally put an end to a 38-year-old mystery about the subject of her 1972 hit You’re So Vain.

The renowned songwriter, who refused to reveal the inspiration behind the track, sparked years of speculation about her song aimed at a former lover.

Guesses to the one of the greatest mysteries in music included the names of Warren Beatty, Sir Mick Jagger, and James Taylor, The Herald Sun reported.

And now, the 64-year-old star has let slip the first name of the man in a new recording of the song, in which the name “David” is whispered, backwards.

Simon told Uncut magazine: “I’m just going to tell you this. The answer is on the new version of You’re So Vain. There’s a little whisper — and it’s the answer to the puzzle.”

Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole’s weight is said to have plunged again following her split from footballer hubby Ashley, as she has been only on a diet of peppermint tea.

Cheryl, 26, who is holed up at the Surrey home she shared with Ashley, has barely eaten for three weeks and has lost 5lbs, leaving friends worried for her health.

Friends have revealed that the heartbroken singer is so upset about her break-up with the soccer star she has no interest in food.

“Cheryl was really happy with her weight and appearance before Christmas. She had put some weight on and was comfortable. But since the latest storm broke she has lost her appetite completely,” the Sun quoted a friend as saying.

“All she will touch is peppermint tea. Her mum has been cooking up lovely homemade soup but she is not interested. The house is full of fresh food and bags of shopping which have gone completely untouched.

“She has lost at least five pounds, which on her tiny frame is a lot. Last week she channelled all her anger into rehearsing for her Brits appearance and that burned off a lot of calories,” the friend added.

‘Heartbroken Cheryl Cole surviving on peppermint tea after split’

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney were among those who paid their final respects to fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

The supermodels were joined by his family for the service that took place at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge, west London.

Moss struggled to hold back tears as they paid their respects.

Mourners pulled out all the stops to remember the outlandish clothes guru with a suitably fashionable funeral.

Kate wore five-inch Christian Louboutin stilettos, a simple black dress and stole, while Naomi, 39, remembered her pal with a fitted jacket and quirky hat.

Socialite Daphne Guinness, 42, went even further in a billowing black cape, full lace veil and towering heel-less shoes.

McQueen’’s father, Ronald, and his five siblings were also among the mourners at the late fashion designer’’s private funeral.

“The mourners went all out to pay tribute to Lee, who was totally fashion-mad. I’ve never seen such an amazing selection of clothes. It looked more like a catwalk than a church,” the Daily Star quoted an onlooker as saying.

“The effort they all made showed just how much he meant to everyone in the fashion world,” the onlooker added.

Fashion pals pay final respects to Alexander McQueen

Just four months after ”retiring”, Lily Allen has announced a festival appearance.

The 24-year-old, who had previously said that a show with Dizzee Rascal at the O2 Arena would be her last, has signed up to join Jay-Z at London’’s Wireless festival on July 4.

The Smile star, who wowed Jay-Z at the Brits, will join the rapper in the show in Hyde Park in a line-up, which also includes Mr Hudson.

The star has been insisting for months that a show with Dizzee Rascal at the O2 Arena would be her last before she concentrates on fashion.

””I was very flattered to hear that Jay-Z wanted me to support him at Wireless and, combined with my dates in March with Dizzee Rascal, I am excited to end my current string of live shows in such prestigious company,”” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

An expert is of the opinion that contemporary Hollywood filmmakers have mastered the art of grabbing viewers”” attention with the correct lengths of each shot based on a mathematical pattern.

James Cutting, a psychologist at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York analyzed 150 movies to reach the conclusion.

In the 1990s, the attention span of moviegoers was first measured into a series of waves using a mathematical trick called a Fourier transform.

It was observed that particular length of attention spans in the viewers often recurred at regular intervals.

Now, this property is known as a 1/f fluctuation, or ””pink noise,”” reports New Scientist. Cutting has measured the duration of every shot in 150 high-grossing Hollywood movies in various genres released between 1935 and 2005.

He found that later films were more likely to obey the 1/f law than earlier ones.

However, Cutting insists that directors are not deliberately using mathematics to make movies.

He thinks films that happen to be edited in this way, which are often more gripping, has inspired other filmmakers to follow suit.

It also explains the reason most recent films tend to follow 1/f.

Musician Chris Brown has defended Tiger Woods, insisting that the golfer deserves a second chance.

MyFox Detroit reported, during an interview with Detroit’’s Channel 95.5′’s Mojo in the Morning radio show on Wednesday, Brown said he critiques those who pass judgment on the world’’s top golfer, reports News.com.au.

“His personal life is his personal life and nobody has the right to place judgement,” said Brown.

“I know my fans gave me a second chance,” he added.

Last week, Woods delivered his first public apology since his explosive sex scandal broke last November.

Brown is currently serving five years probation after pleading guilty to assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna last year.

‘Sex And The City’ star Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed that she has not mastered the art of applying make-up in “real life”.

Parker, 44, who plays glamorous writer Carrie Bradshaw in the fashionable franchise, revealed that she does not wear any when she is not filming, as she does not know how to apply it.

“I am, I confess, very bad at make-up. I don’t wear any in my real life, my personal life. There’s no time for it and I’m not good at it,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling People.com.

“I don’t want to have to do it to myself – I wouldn’t know where to begin,” she added

Sarah Jessica Parker confesses she’s bad at applying make-up

Actor Matt Damon is in talks to star in a new biopic about late U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, Damon, 39, is considering the role in the untitled project with Seabiscuit director Gary Ross, reports the Daily Star.

The website reports the movie will be based on Evan Thomas’ biography of Kennedy, titled His Life, and Damon will only sign the contract after he has approved the script.

Other stars who have played the part include Martin Sheen in 1974 TV movie ‘The Missiles of October’, Casey Affleck in ‘The Kennedys of Massachusetts’, and more recently by Dave Fraunces in 2006’s ‘Bobby’.

Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968, just five years after his brother President John F. Kennedy was gunned down in Dallas, Texas.
