Thrilled to sing after 40 years of composing: Rajesh Roshan

He has been in the industry for about 40 years and churned out soulful tunes like “Jab koi baat bigad jaye” and “Dil kya kare”. But veteran music composer Rajesh Roshan says he is thrilled to have got a chance to sing for the first time in the movie “Kites”.

“This is my first playback ever and it was truly a great experience. I am quite thrilled to finally do it,” Rajesh Roshan, the 54-year-old brother of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, told IANS in an interview on phone from Mumbai. Roshan has sung the song “Fire” along with composer Vishal Dadlani in the movie that stars his nephew Hrithik Roshan, who too is making his singing debut with the much-talked-about film.

“I have been lazy long enough, now I don’t want to be. Even earlier there were songs where I was not finding appropriate voices, but still I overlooked that and didn’t get the perfect voice to sing it.

“Now I won’t do that. Now if I feel I should sing a song I will give it a try. Maybe in future I get more songs suitable for my voice,” he said.

Rajesh Roshan claims “Fire” was the most difficult song to compose in the

“‘Fire’ was the most difficult and challenging track. It has the effects of trance music, which is not easy to create and that is something I haven’t indulged in before.

“Also, we were not getting the right voices to sing the track. We wanted a voice that sings as if in a spell. That is the feel of trance but that was getting lost somewhere. So eventually I decided to step in myself and sing the starting part,” he said.

The soundtrack of “Kites” includes six originals and three remixes. It is quite different from Rajesh Roshan’s earlier movies “Julie”, “Yaarana”, “Karan Arjun” and “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai”.

The composer said apart from “Fire”, he didn’t face much trouble thanks to his brother – who is also the producer of “Kites”.

“I had people like Rakesh, Hrithik and Anurag with me who have a musical ear. They used to pick the right tunes unanimously and that’s the most essential thing. Even if one of them didn’t understand good music, then there would have been a problem,” he said.

Asked for the reason, the composer said: “We were making a film that had to be relevant not just nationally but internationally, so I wanted to compose accordingly. Music has no language; so the feel you create has to suit the

film. Through the feel I wanted the music to be understood by all in the world.”

“Kites”, about an Indian man’s affair with a Latin woman and their predicament as they don’t understand each other’s language, is being made in Hindi and English. The English version has been reworked by well-known Hollywood director Brett Ratner. Also starring Mexican actress Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut, it will be released May 21 in over 60 countries.

Asked why he works for his brother’s films only nowadays, he said: “I’m very comfortable working with my brother. There are no ego hassles. Also, we all strive for perfection; so there is no compromise on creativity. I found my

niche while working with Rakesh.

“Another reason is that I’ve been giving music for the past almost four decades and so I have to reduce my work now. Also, I haven’t been offered anything very interesting from others. There are no barriers. Since I’m comfortable with my family, I work with them but it’s not that I’m averse to others,” he said.

‘Phoonk 2’ is the sequel of the flick ‘Phoonk’ by Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) which got released in 2008. Though, ‘Phoonk’ was a total failure in the box office and failed to give even the slightest panic to the audience. Now, RGV’s all hopes are set to ‘Phoonk 2’.

‘Phoonk’ was all about black magic done by a female Madhu to traumatize the family of Rajiv (Sudeep), a businessman. The movie ended with the death of Madhu. The sequel ‘Phoonk2’ tells the story of Madhu’s evil spirit returning back to haunt the family and take her revenge from Rajiv.

In ‘Phoonk 2’, Rajiv (Sudeep) shifts to a new place and is immersed in his construction business and his kids Raksha (Ahsaas Channa) and Rohan (Rishabh Jain) are also happy with the new place which is surrounded with beach and woods. The horror in their life starts when the kids find a doll in the woods which they carry back home. Thus, the evil spirit of Madhu returns into the doll to haunt and torment Rajiv (Sudeep),his wife Arati (Amruta Khanvilkar) and his beloved children Raksha and Rohan.

Rajiv could not stand the torture that his family gets to face because of Madhu. Madhu’s evil spirit leaves no stones unturned to smite Rajiv’s family to take its revenge. Manja (Zakir Hussain), was the only man who could have helped Rajiv but Madhu’s spook didn’t spare him either. The family suffers in a gruesome and cruel way in the hands of the evil. The spirit of Madhu is shown far more dangerous than she was before when alive. She became more rebellious and filled with animalism. She is brutal, dangerous and cruel and unforgiving. Let the climax of the movie be a secret which will give answers to as to how do Rajiv cope with the situation, did his family members survived? This can be found out only in the theatres.

Whitney Houston’’s poor Birmingham show strengthens drug rumours

Whitney Houston2 204x300 Whitney Houstons poor Birmingham show strengthens drug rumours Whitney Houston’’s recent concert in the U.K has strengthened rumours that she may be using drugs.

The singer gave a rather ordinary performance at the LG Arena in Birmingham.

In fact, the show was so below par that fans, who had paid more than 200 pounds for a ticket, demanded refund.

Houston apparently disappeared for a 20-minute break during the show.

The backup singers sang ‘Queen of the Night’ and ‘For the Love of You,’ while ‘One Moment in Time’ was shown in a pre-recorded video montage.

“It was a con, a ripoff. It wasn”t a concert,” the New York Daily News quoted a fan as saying.

Another added: “She kept the crowd waiting for ages after every song, and all she did was talk to stop her from having to sing. I was so looking forward to it, but I appeared to have wasted [my money].”

The concert echoed Houston’s Sydney performance in February this year.

Her ordinary performances have been blamed on use of drugs.

However, Houston’s reps have branded accusations of drug use “ridiculous”.

Kristen Wiig

Kristen Wiig, Hollywood loves a funny girl, especially when they are as funny as Kristen Wiig!

This Saturday Night Live (SNL) regular has been all over the big screens recently with How to Train Your Dragon, Date Night and Whip It, and we are loving every second of it.

Shortly after college, Wiig joined the comedy troupe The Groundlings, and had low profile gigs until her big break came during the 2005 season of SNL. Perfecting her recurring characters such as Gilly, Penelope and the Target Lady, Wiig has won the hearts of viewers world wide and is now taking her comedy prowess to the big screen.

With a few supporting roles under her belt, including parts in Knocked Up, Walk Hard and Adventureland, she has got an impressive number of projects in the works even as we speak. Besides the three soon-to-be-released films listed earlier, she is set to be a part of the animated film Despicable Me, the SNL-based comedy MacGruber and the FOX animated serried The Monkey Factory. She is also involved in the films All Good Things, Ass Backwards and Paul, all of which feature all-star casts.

In How to Train Your Dragon, Wiig is the voice of rambunctious twin Ruffnut, and in Whip It she is a rough-and-tumble roller derby girl. Though her role in Date Night isn’t as physical, we’re sure she’ll be great all the same.

Sonja Morgan

Sonja Morgan, When asked by Entertainment Weekly why she’s appearing on The Real Housewives of New York City (Morgan debuts tonight).

“I’m on the show to have a good time and commercialize myself… I’ve been writing my screenplay since the minute my divorce started. It’s very sexy, sort of like a Candace Bushnell society novel.”

Somewhere in a meeting with her agent, ignoring her children Kate Gosselin is shaking her head and wondering why a single mother on a reality show isn’t using that platform to exploit her kids for sympathy, money and attention.

But back to Morgan. What is her life experience? Will she mix it up with her co-stars? We’ve excerpted a few responses from her aforementioned magazine interview:

What’s her resume? I’ve been working my whole life, started at 14 years old put myself through college, and then I was modeling in Europe, doing the restaurant business, and brokering deals. Then I got married, had a baby. Then I produced a movie, then I produced an art show and produced an art tour. I said, “You know, I think it’s time to highlight my career.”

Will she catfight? It’s not my M.O. I love to gossip like anyone else but I definitely don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I can be very gossipy and fakey like any woman is, and I hope I can keep my composure around the ladies.

What is she like? I don’t want to be cliché and say don’t judge a book by its cover, but there are many layers to me. I’m very down to earth and a good mom. I do my own gardening and floral arrangements and cooking. I’m much more down to earth than you would realize.
