Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan: India Will Emerge As Global Player In Films Soon

MUMBAI,Bollywood News: Noting that the young generation of Bollywood is more exposed to western cinema, superstar Shahrukh Khan today said India needs to make movies that impress global audience and expects to achieve the level in near future.

“To be really proud, we need to make films which make a mark in the world. I can see it happening in the next five or six years, very easily,” Shahrukh told CNN at an interview with Farid Zakaria.

He said Bollywood films are using “Hinglish” – a liberal use of English in spoken Hindi.

“Because see, also the problem is that the language that we use in our films is Hindi. So, I don’t think Hollywood, that’s the only advantage that they have is that they speak in English — they’re great filmmakers also — but I think that’s a big advantage, that we don’t make films in English yet,” Shahrukh said.

“But the time is coming now, because I have kids and they’re all watching, you know, language in Hindi films, if you see a new Indian film, you’ll realise that the language is more Hinglish.

You know, we’re using, and we don’t have to translate it anymore, everyone understands it. And everyone uses it every day,” he said.

“They (the young people in Bollywood) have learned the technique and technology, and writing from the western world, which is a more developed science.

As far as screenplay writing, it is a more developed science in the west. And they have been able to take those ideas and say OK, we can bring them into our films.

Though many a times they fail at it, but the youth here in India now is also understanding different kind of cinema, because they’re also exposed to television, Internet,” Shahrukh said.

With globalisation and growing amount of communication and information sharing, language and culture as a barrier will start breaking down, Shahrukh said.

“You go on to the Internet — I go on Twitter or you know, I hang with kids and chat with them. And I’m realising that, they’re trying to figure out what my culture is and talking about it. So, all that will break down and other cinemas will come over, will come, and they’ll use the technology — and a lot of technicians from here.

But stories, every country has a story to tell. And once it reaches a certain standard in terms of technique, I think the world would like to watch it,” he said.

Set and produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Breaking Bad is the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He breaks down and turns to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in a desire to secure his family’s financial future.

Breaking Bad has received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing as well as Bryan Cranston’s and Aaron Paul’s performances, and has won four Emmy Awards in addition to numerous other awards and nominations.

Bipasha Basu, I Am Being Maligned

MUMBAI,BOLLYWOOD NEWS: The Bengali bombshell Bipasha Basu has never looked or felt in better physical shape than she is now. For her it’s all about loving her body.

Her nine-year romance with Bollywood and equally-long relationship with John Abraham is in full bloom. Post her fitness videos, her film career has picked up steam. She has Priyadarshan’s Aakrosh (earlier titled Garam Hawa), a film meant to give her ‘artistic side’ a boost. Then there is Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maro Dum, the slick action thriller that is currently being filmed in Goa. She’s studying a couple of more scripts and is streamlining her endorsements.

On Easter Sunday, she had a double lunch date at beau John’s home and in her best friend Deanne Panday’s house. Her personalised clothes line will be launched post the IPL grand finale. With such a flurry of activities, one would naturally assume that Bipasha’s mood is upbeat. Yet there is something niggling at her and being the forthright girl that she is, Bipasha comes straight to the point: “Recent media reports are constantly saying just one thing. They’re either talking about my divagiri or me being unprofessional. Nothing could be further from the truth than this.’’

Visibly upset with the Bipasha smear campaign, the actress says, “Listen I didn’t get to this position by being unprofessional. Nor do I throw tantrums as it is being made to seem. If I have had issues at a couple of public functions, then it must mean that someone else didn’t keep their end of the bargain. Unfortunately, one-sided stories make it to the media and since I don’t have a strong public relations machinery to put things into the right perspective, my reputation is being tarnished.’’

But she will not wallow in self-pity. Always known for taking the reins of her life and career in her hands, and for quick-silver independent decisions, the actress says, “I know some publications survive on negative publicity. But I just feel it’s unfair to tarnish someone’s reputation just to sensationalise a report. I’m the sort who has usually lets most things ride. But that hardly means that I’m insensitive to what is being said about me. I’m going to get a PR person. I just feel someone should be out there giving my version of every ugly report that raises its head, of late once too often.’’

Having said that, she talks of how her latest two movies Aakrosh and Dum Maro Dum are giving her a chance to bring quality into her performances. And, while she categorically denies that John recommended her to Rohan Sippy for DMD, the actress laughs, “Listen I know Rohan from the Taxi 9211 days where John played the lead. Rohan approached my casting agent on his own accord. John and I have been together for nine years and haven’t interfered in each other’s careers. ’’

Lara Dutta, One Husband Is Enough

MUMBAI,Bollywood NEWS: Lara won’t comment on her personal life,” Lara Dutta’s publicist tells us. It’s quite unlike the Lara we’ve known — forthcoming and open about the men in her life. “Call it anything, maybe a phase. But I won’t comment,” asserts Lara, just back from a trip to the US with her friends.

There are, however, some things that she will talk about. One is her next release Housefull, in which she’s married to Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh. Does she believe in polyandry? “No, it’s illegal. Forget about finding two husbands, I’d be glad if I found one in this lifetime. Getting married once is hard enough, then why would any woman want to do it twice?” she asks. So, why does her character do it? “She comes to London to study and falls in love with a man, whom her father (Boman Irani) can’t stand. I can’t reveal why she has two husbands,” smiles Lara.

Is comedy becoming her comfort zone? “My audiences like me in comedies. It’s a talent I have. If there’s a possibility of doing one great comedy a year by either David Dhawan, Priyadarsan or Sajid Khan, you’d be a fool to turn it down as they’re masters of their craft. But I don’t limit myself to it. I can even do a negative role. I’m more an actor than a star,” she states.

The latest buzz is that Lara will bring out a fitness video à la Bipasha Basu. “I’ve always had a healthy image. I don’t diet, but believe in a balanced lifestyle for the mind, body and soul. Mine will be a lifestyle-wellness product, and not limited to a DVD,” reveals Lara. As for comparisons with Bips’s product, she says, “Bipasha has an amazing body and a mantra that works for her. I never had a muscular body nor can I kill myself in the gym. I’m vegetarian and it works for me.”

She joins the list of actress-cum-entrepreneurs with this one. “You can’t face the camera all your life. I will also produce or direct if I’m equipped to at some point. I’m also writing a script,” she reveals.

Director Kookie Gulati `Prince’ Is High-Voltage Action

MUMBAI,INDIAN NEWS: Director Kookie Gulati says high voltage action scenes performed by Vivek Oberoi in his big-budget directorial debut ‘Prince’ are the film’s USP. He is confident the movie will surprise audiences with its implausible action sequences shot with cutting-edge previz technology in South Africa, Thailand and India.

“Previz is the short form of pre-visualisation. It is an animated form of storyboard. I made this previz to show that all those seemingly impossible stunts done by Vivek were actually possible and this is the way one particular scene should be shot,” Gulati told reporters in an interview.

According to reports, producer Kumar Taurani has invested over Rs.40 crore in ‘Prince’. In the two-hour-six-minute film there is one hour of action.

Kookie used animated storyboard – previz – to make his associates understand how he wanted the action sequence to be shot. The advantage of previsualization is that it allows directors to experiment with different staging and art direction options without having to incur the costs of actual production.

“The first shot that we took was with 350 people, eight cameras across six buildings and Vivek on top of a building. We shot it in a day. If I hadn’t done previz, it would have taken us six days easily because by the time everyone coordinates and understands what actually is happening and what we want to show, it would have been a mess.

“This previz was also required to convince people what I am actually trying to do. I had to do the storyboard first and then animators transformed it to a previz. We used it mostly for the action sequences,” said Gulati.

Releasing Friday, the film stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role and Gulati roped in Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh to play female leads.

“There is a big twist in the film with one of these women. All of them claim to be Maya (character name). If I had cast big name in my film, you could have easily guessed who is the original Maya. That’s why I didn’t take big stars in my film,” said Gulati.

Asked what made him choose these three girls, Gulati said: “We wanted each girl to have her own character.

“The story is of six days; so keeping in mind the pace at which the film moves there was not much time to set up each character and provide that length of story behind each of them. So the idea was to pick up good actors who can deliver in the time frame that was given to them on screen,” he said.

The film’s theme was Gulati’s brainchild, but screenplay writer Shiraz Ahmed, who scripted films like ‘Race’ (2008) and ‘Wanted’ (2009), shaped it into the screenplay of ‘Prince’.

“We were very lucky that writer Shiraz Ahmed took a liking for me and agreed to write the script. It actually became a very huge plus point. We had an idea of the film we wanted to make and then obviously he took it on,” said Kookie.

‘Prince’ narrates the story of a thief (Vivek) who wakes up one morning to realise he has lost his memory and that his life is at stake. Kookie had a couple of choices for the male lead, but signing Vivek was producer Kumar Taurani’s idea.

“We needed someone who can carry certain kind of physicality and can act well at the same time. Because the way the script has been written, the storyline is very, very strong and all these actions and stunts come through it. Vivek became the obvious choice because he can actually pull it off. Kumarji took a call,” said Kookie.

Gulati says he always wanted to make a film and was brushing up his skills by making music videos.

“I have been working with Kumar Taurani for the last nine years. I made a few music videos, but from the day I joined, I wanted to make a movie. But obviously it takes time. It’s good that it didn’t happen that time because I got time to discover myself,” said Gulati.

LOS ANGELES: Pop star Jessica Simpson has revealed that women don’t need a man to feel good about themselves and they must learn to love themselves before they can find the right relationship.

“It’s important for women not to find their confidence in a man. I think you really have to know who you are before you can truly fall in love and give your all, and I don’t think a man can define you. You have to own that.

“So if you’re ever with anyone who says you should change something about yourself then they should never fall in love with you in the first place,” Simpson said.

Bollywood Stars Attend Premiere Of Tum Milo Toh Sahi

Famed heroine of yesteryears Dimple Kapadia and several other personalities from the tinsel world of Bollywood added glitter to the premiere of the Indian movie ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ at Mumbai.

This film is dubbed to be a romantic comedy in Hindi. Produced by Nikhil Panchammiya, the film features veteran Bollywood actors Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia.

Both these artistes are teaming up after a gap of 16 years. Their last film was ‘Krantiveer’ (Revolutionary Hero) in 1994.

Directed by Kabir Sadanand, the film is set in Mumbai and is all about love and relationships in the modern era. Sadanand looked optimistic about the film being a hit and claimed that the movie-buffs have been making advance bookings to see it.

“Our attempt is to touch the heart of masses through our film… I feel people are enthusiastic about the film and according to my information people have started advance bookings for the film. It is interesting as people normally don’t book tickets in advance,” said Kabir Sadanand.

He also mentioned that the in this movie, he has tried to portrays how, despite ups and downs, relationship in life remains the utmost priority and not the circumstances.

Sadanand had also directed ‘Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao’ (Eat Popcorn and be delighted) in 2004. Dimple Kapadia, who is pairing-up with Nana Patekar, was enthralled by the experience.

“I feel extremely good after working with Nana (actor Nana Patekar) because I don’t have to think about my role as Nana will manage everything…It is always a great learning experience and I learnt lot of things working with Nana,” admitted Dimple Kapadia.

Among others in the star cast are Suniel Shetty, Vidya Malvade, Anjana Sukhani and Rehan Khan. Sandesh Shandilya has composed the music for this film. ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ is slated to hit the screen on Friday.

German Museum Presents Over 900 Egg Designs

The picturesque town of Sonnenbuehl in southern Germany has elevated the humble Easter egg and given it a museum all of its own.

The only one of its kind in Germany, the museum celebrates the handicraft and love that goes into decorating hollowed out eggs.

The museum itself was founded in 1993 to offer the tourists something to look at when the skiing season was over and as luck would have it some members of the town already had private egg collections to offer up.
Along with marvelling at the intricate designs, visitors are given a tour of Easter egg traditions from all over the world.

There are about 900 egg examples on display here in a whole variety of shapes and sizes, modern and traditional.

Over the Easter festival the museum offers up its space to international egg artists who come and show off their skills.
